THE CHAMOIS IN SPAIN
They inhabit the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian Mountains respectively. Both subspecies have hook-shaped horns and are a challenge for sportsmen who love mountain hunting. The Pyrenean variety population is around 7,000 and is larger than the Cantabrian subspecies, of which there are about 5,000.
The Cantabrian Chamois are distributed along the Cantabrian Mountains, which are located in the north western part of the country. In the provinces of Asturias, Cantabria, León & Palencia. The mountains are steep and really green, due to its climate. This subspecies is the smallest of all the different Chamois in the world (Europe & Asia).
The Pyrenean Chamois are distributed along the Pyrenees, in the north western part of the country. In Spain they can be hunted in the south face of the Pyrenees mountain range, versus the French, which are in the north face.
Both subspecies of Chamois can be hunted in the spring from May to July and the fall; from October to mid-November, in the case of the Cantabrian Chamois, and from October to the end of December in the case of the Pyrenean Chamois, being late October to mid-November, the best time to hunt them, due to their rutting time period.
These, are excellent mountain hunts, really sportive and challenging. Even though these hunts require a good physical condition, we do have areas that are smoother than others, and we hunt Chamois, with our clients at the appropriate areas adjusting it to their physical condition.
CAZATUR only hunts at the best areas of the country. There are both; private and government land (Game Reserves). The National Game Reserves are for hunting Chamois in both cases, the best option and the only areas we hunt Chamois in. The population and trophy quality, are the highest on these Reserves, we hunt at, plus there are Game Wardens scouting daily and protecting its wildlife. Each of these hunts, last 2 hunting days, plus the days of transfers.
